About
This one-day MIG Welding Introduction class is designed for beginners who want a straightforward, hands-on introduction to wire-feed welding. It is well suited for hobbyists, makers, and anyone looking to learn a versatile process commonly used for home projects, light fabrication, and general repairs. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of MIG welding using both shielding gas and flux-cored wire. Instruction covers equipment setup, wire selection, polarity, and basic machine settings. Emphasis is placed on proper torch handling, travel speed, and maintaining a consistent arc to produce clean, repeatable welds on materials such as mild steel. The class includes joint preparation, basic weld positions, and an explanation of how voltage, wire speed, and shielding method affect weld quality. Students will also learn when to use gas-shielded MIG versus flux-core wire, along with guidance on identifying and correcting common beginner mistakes. Safety and proper equipment use are emphasized throughout the day, with ample supervised practice time. All welding equipment, safety gear, and sample materials are provided for the class. By the end of the day, students will have a solid foundational understanding of MIG welding with both gas and flux-core processes and the confidence to continue practicing on simple, real-world projects.
